When mountain bikers get married, mountain bikers have small weddings so that they can go on BIG mountain biking honeymoons. The big trip meant driving 12-hrs from the home trails of Ashland, Oregon, through the trees and over the desert to Salt Lake City, Utah, where it all started by picking up a completely stocked-for-awesome-times camper van. This rented black beauty would be home for the next 3-weeks while we traveled to trails in Utah and Southwest Colorado – to do nada but ride, ride, ride.
As it would be highly dangerous to take notes while riding, we’ve…
Boulder City, Nevada – About 30 miles outside of Las Vegas, Bootleg Canyon is an excellent place to practice and become more comfortable with looser terrain and serious rock sections. Although an infamously rowdy venue, trails for all abilities, with scenic views of Lake Mead, do in-fact exist. All Mountain Cyclery, a well equipped mountain bike specific, service and retail shop is located on the main road, just below the canyon. The shop offers rental bikes from Specialized and a great protective gear and mountain bike parts selection.
Over the past few years, Lauren Gregg, the new 2014 California Enduro Series Queen, has made quite a few appearances at womens specific gravity mountain biking events. From participating in the Shine Ladies Jump Jam on the Camp of Champions Air Bag at Sea Otter in 2013 and 2014, Lauren has also competed in Sweetlines Sugar Showdown and has enjoyed dirt jumping for several years. As unfortunate it may seem that Lauren was not out showing the world her stellar skills on the gravity circuits, it is all a part of her master plan for becoming a world class professional downhill racer. When she made the statement that she would progress on to Enduro for 2014, we knew we needed this strong, inspiring, female on our team. Lauren went on to having an excellent season, beginning at the Sea Otter Classic Enduro, the first stop of the California Enduro Series. Read on about Lauren’s season highlights, how she got into mountain biking, her progressive plan from cross country to downhill, how she trains, her biggest challenges racing gravity, and her favorite stop of CES 2014. Lauren also describes her most inspiring competitor, junior racers, and her plans for the off season. Watch out ladies, Lauren plans to defend her CES title in 2015 and hopes to take top 5 for the very first USA Cycling Enduro National Championship. Thank you Lauren, we are so proud of you and can’t wait to see where you go with your skills and talent!
The SF Bike Expo has grown and changed so much over the years. My first personal attendance was in 2005, when it was the Velo Swap, after moving most of the bike shop I used to help run in Connecticut across the country in a rushed California dream. My good friend, and the old owner of that shop, needed to unload his inventory, and it was an excellent place to do so. The swap was also a great place to meet other cyclists in my new home, Northern California.
from IMBA ICP coach Lindsay Beth Currier – I didn’t always think I needed skills coaching for mountain biking. Having started out riding at a very young age, and growing up living, breathing, and dreaming mountain biking, I thought I already had all of the skills I needed to emulate the amazing feats of freeriders and downhillers I had seen from the sides of race courses and in the VHS tapes (those are videos kids!). Besides, I had all the guys at the bike shop to tell me how to ride, right? Around the age of 16, I really thought I knew everything. Just send it was my moto. I would just keep practicing and trying, over and over again. I broke my collar bone, chipped a tooth or two, bit my tongue, knocked myself out, permanently damaged my beautiful knees and elbows… But I just didn’t care. No pain no gain right?
The Kamikaze Bike Games event was a total success, and I had…
