Samantha Kingshill is the first female to hit the "Bender Sender"

Inspiring Interview: 15 year old Samantha Kingshill

What is your FIRST mountain bike memory? My first mountain bike memory…

What is your FIRST mountain bike memory?
My first mountain bike memory was when I first got a mountain bike on my 7th birthday, my dad took me out to Auburn State Rec. Area and we rode culvert/tunnel trail to confluence trail. I crashed and tumbled down a cliff. Luckily I landed on a rock ledge and my dad was able to pull me up. Then I went back up to hit the line again and made it out alive.

Who do you ride with the most?
I ride the most with my dad and family or my coach, Michael Masuda.
What professional freerider (any gender) inspires you the most and why?
My favorite professional freerider is Gee Atherton, I love all 3 Athertons and it’s very hard to pick between the 3 because they are all awesome, but I think Gee is my favorite because he does both freeriding and races World Cup Downhill
What is the biggest feature you have hit so far and what was it like?
The biggest road gap I hit was the Bender Sender and the biggest table top I hit was a line on Candy Land in Angel Fire bike park. I think for hitting both I was in the air for an equal amount of time.

SUCCESS! Irwin Cycles Hosts Amazing Devinci Womens Weekend – Las Vegas, NV

If you hadn’t heard of Irwin Cycles in Las Vegas before, it…

If you hadn’t heard of Irwin Cycles in Las Vegas before, it could be because they are one of the newest bicycle shops in town. Located an easy warm-up distance to the main trailhead of Bears Best, Irwin Cycles celebrated their one year anniversary, just last week. Owned and operated by Lifan and her husband Carl Irwin, the shop is warm, welcoming and is stocked with the favorite products that both Lifan and Carl prefer to use for cycling. One of these products is Devinci bicycles, and with Shine’s Devinci Womens Weekend Tour,  this common ground is where we all came to meet.  The Womens Weekend at Irwin Cycles included an evening of socializing, a Ladies No-Drop MTB Ride, and a FUNdamental Skills Clinic. A selection of Devinci Mountain Bike Demos were available to rent for the rides and were included in registration for the skills clinic. In addition to the Shine demo fleet, Irwin Cycles also has a great selection of Devinci demos to rent at anytime.  Overall the weekend was a success, bringing many women together in one great bike shop.

Who says winter is the off season?  Here at Bootleg Canyon MTB…

Who says winter is the off season?  Here at Bootleg Canyon MTB Park, in winter-friendly Boulder City, located in Southern Nevada, the “off season” is the BEST time for mountain biking.  While summer, and even spring and fall temperatures can be unbearable, winter is the time to come shred the canyon, and compete at the Bootleg Canyon Winter Gravity Series and Bonzai Enduro.  Each year, Downhill Mike and Evil Elias travel out from Whiteface Bike Park in now frigid and frozen upstate New York, to produce a series of gravity races that draw competitors from as far as Canada (Bonzai Enduro is presented by Gear Works Productions).  These races have a history of drawing the most talented professional racers and the opportunity for some big-time freeride fun.  Read on for a little Bootleg Canyon Racing HERstory, a day by day re-cap of the weekend from the eyes of LBC, a mini womens photo gallery, links to official results and more media.  AND most importantly, Don’t forget to check out Sam’s re-cap of her experience hitting the Bender Sender for the first time.  This young lady is already making MTB HERstory!

Perhaps you have noticed that there has been loads of green in our Instagram photos, our Facbook avatar, on the new website, and the 2015 Shine Gravity Race Team official Jersey. What does going green mean to Shine? While we have always been grassroots to the core, with sustainability and environmental conservation main concerns, for Shine in 2015, green means new growth. It means new potential, new programs, and new partnerships. Think strong pine tree with new little needles!
