These events are also a great opportunity for riders to work with photographers to build their portfolios and resumes.
“Emily learned so much at your downhill camp. If she didn’t do the clinic at Squaw Valley [in 2013] she never would have just won at Sea Otter over the weekend. She won Downhill and Dual Slalom. Thank you and please keep in touch.”Todd Harris, father of Emily Harris, nationally ranked BMXer And Mountain Biker
“I was really excited to get involved with Shine this season. I’m stoked to be working with an organization that is inspiring more women to ride gravity. Shine has supported me through this season with product, encouragement, and an awesome group of female riders who love to get rad. Being promoted and supported as a member of the women’s gravity movement has been great and is something I’m really grateful for and excited about.”Lauren Gregg, FOX Bike Team, 2014 California Enduro Series Queen, 2014 Shine GRT Roster
“Lindsay — it was so great meeting you! You are an inspiration for women mt. bikers. I’ve been using the lessons from the clinic on my rides, and they help a lot!”Joanna J. – California

The Battle Born Enduro, presented by The Poedunks as a fundraiser for local trail projects, will once again kick off the California Enduro Series, challenging racers on the desert trails of Peavine Mountain, just across the California border in Nevada, with loose, sandy single track, rocky technical descents, and punchy climbs—a great start to the 2015 series.
“Peavine is a favorite riding spot of the locals for its challenging and narrow trails,” explains event organizer Kevin Joell. “We’re pleased to introduce it to new users through the Battle Born Enduro, and support the work of the Poedunks to continue mining Peavine’s singletrack.”
Local rider Steven Lewis is looking forward to the 2015 kick off, adding “When the California Enduro Series announced the first race of their 2014 season, I was elated to find out it was in my backyard. What I did not expect was the close family feel the entire group of CES staff and racers gave me. After the Battle Born Enduro, I decided to sign up for the entire series—I was hooked!” Indeed he was. Lewis went on to race all five events, taking second place in series for Expert Men 19-35, and he is planning to race Pro in 2015.

The Mob’ n’ Mojave at Bootleg Canyon is the 2nd race in the Winter Gravity Series, and it was awesome! I got there Friday with my mom and I decided to go practice the Super D course. It was longer and it had more pedaling than the other race last month. I had a lot […]
While contemplating mountain bike goals and dreams and crunching numbers this winter, I realized if Sam’s going to go where she needs to go (EVERYWHERE), she is going to need some funding, and soon. She’s quickly gone from 11 to 15 in the short time that I have known her, and before we all know […]

The NEW 2015 Trail Jersey […]
What is your FIRST mountain bike memory? My first mountain bike memory was when I first got a mountain bike on my 7th birthday, my dad took me out to Auburn State Rec. Area and we rode culvert/tunnel trail to confluence trail. I crashed and tumbled down a cliff. Luckily I landed on a rock […]
If you hadn’t heard of Irwin Cycles in Las Vegas before, it could be because they are one of the newest bicycle shops in town. Located an easy warm-up distance to the main trailhead of Bears Best, Irwin Cycles celebrated their one year anniversary, just last week. Owned and operated by Lifan and her husband Carl […]
In 2008, Shine's founder Lindsay Beth Currier, sustained a life-altering back injury while mountain biking in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California. In an effort to find a way to give back to the incredible community of female mountain bikers in the region while on the couch, Lindsay is inspired to create Shine, a womens gravity mountain biking organization.
While recovering from her back injury, Lindsay briefly moved to Sonoma County, where she worked as a leader for HillJillys, a womens cycling group in the region. Lindsay led mountain and road bike rides, passed on knowledge about gear and repairs, and helped create connections between riders. The HIllJillys kept Lindsay inspired through the pain and struggles of recovery, helping her focus on how to bring Shine to light.
To implement her vision to "Illuminate and Inspire rad female gravity mountain bikers," Lindsay launches the first version of ShineRidersCo.com, a simple Google powered Blogger site. The purpose of this website is to increase awareness of female mountain biking athletes, by publishing photos, stories, and race results. In addition to the website, Lindsay designed, set-up, and screen-printed the first collection of Shine t-shirts. Many shirts were given away as gifts, and a simple way to spread the message. A small amount of proceeds was generated from t-shirt sales to help fund a badly needed new website, with more capabilities.
After two incredible summers of riding at the Northstar Bike Park, Lindsay not only felt back to her old freeriding, gravity loving self again, she met a new group of female gravity riders. These women were based in the Lake Tahoe region of Northern California. Many were already racing professionally or close to upgrading. Several had no support from sponsors, access to team pricing for gear and parts, or access to industry contacts.

Many races these women competed in provided very little in prize money or product. To make things better, and to provide a competition that focuses more on rider SKILL than just SPEED and COURAGE, Lindsay creates her first womens mountain biking event: Queen of the MTN. Queen of the MTN consisted of a two day format: 1 Day of Skills Coaching + 1 Day of Freeride Competition. Riders competed on the many stunts of the Northstar Bike Park to demonstrate their SKILLS & STYLE in a fun and supportive environment. The incredible weekend was featured in Dirt Rag Magazine. With such great success and exposure of the 2011 Queen of the MTN, Lindsay was asked to produce a women's jump jam at the 2011 SF Bike Expo. While only drawing a half a dozen competitors to test their skills on the RideSFO's mobile box-jump, the contest made it to the print in Decline Magazine.
2012 Queen of the MTN saw a 400% increase in participants, both for the skills clinic and competition. Riders traveled to Northern California from as far as Arizona and Utah to learn and compete on a custom designed and hand-built ladies slopestyle course. In alignment with Lindsay's goal to progress women's gravity mountain biking, Lindsay launched SendHER in the fall of 2012. This contest took place in the desert mountains of Virgin, Utah, at the Old Redbull Rampage site and several other secret locations. Aurelie Tournier traveled all the way from France to compete, along with US professional downhiller, Jackie Harmony. Photos were captured by Colorado photographer Cade Vanheel.
While Shine had featured and supported a collective of riders in past years, 2013 marks the first year for an official Gravity Race Team roster. The team consisted of several professional level riders: Andrea Napoli, Robyn Embrey, Gretchen Johnson, Allison Oliver, Samantha Kingshill, and Lindsay Beth Currier. These riders competed together at the Bootleg Canyon Winter Series (Boulder City, NV) and various USA Cycling Pro GRT races. Additionally, 2013 saw increased participation in both Queen of the MTN and SendHER. 2013 QoM took place at the world renowned Squaw Valley, and included a downhill focused skills clinic. The contest.
