The 2015 Nevada State Downhill Championships, taking place in rugged Bootleg Canyon, Nevada, is the first race of the year for the Shine, and also the first of the three part Winter Gravity Series. Directed by Downhill Mike and his side-kick Evil Elias, these races promise exceptionally technical off-season gravity races, an amazing crew of athletes, volunteers, spectators, vendors, FOOD, BEER, MUSIC, and of course great PRIZES.
The terrain in Bootleg is known to be rowdy (see featured image of Allison Oliver from 2014), which has the effect of attracting and keeping away different riders. If you enjoy challenging terrain, you probably already have been to Bootleg, or have it on the top of your list of places to ride. If you are still getting comfortable riding trails with lots of rocks, cliff exposure, desert conditions, and serious consequences, then Bootleg may be a place you never wish to come to… Yet!
MEET US AT THE SHINE BOOTH
No matter your experience or ability level, if you are a lady, you will be supported if you come to Bootleg Canyon for the races this weekend. When you get to the canyon, stop in at the Shine Booth for a hot cup or cold can of Guayaki Yerba Mate (what is that? ask Lindsay), a trail map, and a Shine goody bag. If you need a place to stash your bag or just hang out, Shine’s got you covered. If you forgot any parts, equipment, or need mechanical help, All Mountain Cyclery is close by and is EXCEPTIONAL for sales and service. We highly recommend you stop by the shop just to check in with the AMC crew for good luck. We promise this works 🙂
If you are looking for an easy way to record your practice or race runs and protect your iphone, Shine will have a limited number of iXtreme phone cases for sale in the booth. These cases fit the iphone 5 and include everything you need to get started filming yourself and your friends. If you need help or advice with filming or editing we’ve got you covered!
SKILLS CLINIC 1/15 9am – 3pm!
If you need skills… A FUNdamental Skills Clinic is available Thursday 9AM – 3PM with coach Lindsay Beth Currier. This clinic provides riders with the basic skills needed to make it safely down the trails. You must pre-register for this clinic by 6pm Wednesday night, or we will cancel this class and go get rowdy. Lindsay will also be available for private instruction. If you are interested in private instruction, please send us a message.
FREE RACE ENTRY!
If this is your very first race ever, you have the opportunity to receive a grant for your race registration from professional athlete Amanda Batty. Amanda has stepped forward to provide the one item that keeps most riders from racing: their entry fees. Here is your first chance to try mountain bike racing, FOR FREE. Sign up right here and get going!
COURSE WALKS WITH AMANDA BATTY!
If you are curious about which line to take, Amanda has scheduled time to lead course walks throughout the weekend. It is smart to walk the trail whether it is your first time or you have been here before. Conditions change, etc. See what is around that corner, on the otherside of that drop, etc before hitting the course. Additionally, walking the course with others helps you discover new lines, and better ways to make it quickly down the mountain. Plus you get to chill on a hike with Amanda, that’s pretty sweet right?
When you get starving hungry after all of the fun laps on the trails, you can look forward to the infamous Chuck Wagon and grub that will make your spurs spin! Shine also highly recommends the Southwest Diner and has found pretty good shopping potential at the nearby Vons and Albertsons.
For prizes, Downhill Mike is well known for securing TONS OF GREAT THINGS. We don’t currently have an accurate list to share but we can tell you that Shine has donated 4 tins of Guaykai Biodynamic ($25/tin) and a $100 Skills Gift Card, just for the ladies.
